Brett Favre-Adrian Peterson Show Regular Season Flair in Vikings’ Win

The NFL season is almost upon us, and teams are beginning the tough task of narrowing down their rosters. As for one player, he hopes to build bonds with his players on and off the field, in hopes of a successful season which is less then two weeks away.

So, if Brett Favre has caused a so called “Schism” in the Minnesota Vikings locker room, it was certainly hushed for the time being. Especially coming off a impressive 17-10 Monday night victory over the host Houston Texans.

The Vikings looked solid on both sides of the ball in their third preseason game.

The biggest celebrity of the night however, was Brett Favre, who managed to improve from last Friday’s mediocre performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in which he managed to only go 1-for-4 for four total yards passing. That single pass went to Vikings’ rookie Wide Receiver Percy Harvin.

Granted it was his first official game with his new offense, Favre had to show improvement.

Coming off a full week of practice and one preseason game under his belt, Favre was expected to play the entire first half and build to rhythm and chemistry with his Viking team mates.

Favre needed to show improvement with the Vikings offense, and he did just that.

Going 13-of-18 for 142 passing yards with 1 TD. A short pass to running back Chester Taylor, who then in turn, crashed through Texan defenders on his way to a 28 yard touchdown.

It was a solid performance from the 39 year-old quarterback, but what was more impressive was his ability to control the game and make the right, necessary, decisions with the football.

The biggest positive from Favre’s play was that he didn’t make any crucial mistakes or turnovers through out his two and a half quarters of play.

Another Viking player in midseason form was Vikings’ all-star running back Adrian Peterson, who on the first Vikings offensive play, took the handoff from Favre and sped past the Houston Texans secondary for a 75-yard touchdown run.

Peterson would finish off the night with 11 carries for 117 yards and 1 rushing TD.

The Vikings defense also looked like they were in regular season form, getting Defensive End Jared Allen back after suffering a ankle sprain during practice last week. Also returning for the starters was Nose Tackle Pat Williams, who was held out of the first two games for a minor injury and rest.

The defense forced two interceptions—Linebacker Ben Leber and Free Saftey Madieu Williams, the recipients of those interceptions. As well as, one sack from Jared Allen as the Vikings’ defense wreaked havoc on the Houston Texans first and second string offenses.

Once again though, all eye were on Brett Favre, who showed off his surgically repaired arm by throwing speedy bullets into Wide Receivers Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, and Tight End Visanthe Shianco all game long.

However, once piece missing from that Wide Receiver corps was Vikings’ deep threat Bernard Berrian who was dressed up and warming up before game time, but was then seen wearing street clothes before the National anthem.

The Vikings now move on with a 3-0 record in the preseason, but must get ready to face the Dallas Cowboys in their final preseason game at home.

Also to note, Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff will have reason to be busy, as they prepare to start their player cuts, in preparation for their final 53-man roster.

All NFL teams must have their rosters down to 53 players before next Saturday night.

So how do you think Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings offense looked against the Houston Texans? What did you think of the Minnesota Vikings defense so far?

Adrian Peterson Welcomes Brett Favre To The Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings who have been in dire need of a quarterback for the past four years are currently involved in the on going Favre saga.

In a league where the quarterback is the most important position, it also has been the crippling point for a Vikings team already loaded with talent and ability to make a run at it’s first Super Bowl in franchise history.

After his release from the New York Jets in April, retired Brett Favre has recently been reported to have a contractual agreement with the Vikings.

Admitting on HBO’s Joe Buck Live in early June that he had received surgery from well known orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in mid-May to repair a partially torn bicep tendon.

Although Vikings head coach Brad Childress and other front office officials  have been mum on the Favre subject, one Pro Bowl running back isn’t keeping quiet.

Last years rushing and Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has admitted he would welcome Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings.

When talking about Favre Peterson told the Associated Press “Your talking about a Hall of Fame quarterback, a guy I grew up watching. I love just the passion he played with.”

Also telling the Press “If he is a part of our team when the season comes around, when training camp comes around, we’re going to welcome him with open arms and see where the chips fall.”

Regarding the quarterback situation, the Vikings were supposed to enter training camp with newly acquired Sage Rosenfels who was traded from the Houston Texans for draft picks from the Vikings. Rosenfels was expected to compete with three year leaguer Tavaris Jackson at training camp for the starting QB position.

However that may change very soon if the Vikings do sign Favre, and make him the starter for the 2009-2010 season.

Adrian Peterson has said he’ll tell coach Brad Childress and top Vikings officials what he thinks, but admits he doesn’t want to get tangled up deciding whether to pursue Brett Favre or stick with their current quarterbacks Sage Rosenfels and Tavaris Jackson.

Hoping that the QB competition will create a better Rosenfels or Jackosn in the end.

In the end Peterson said “I know our coach is going to do the right job, and at the end of the day his job is having the best team possible to win games, that’s his job, so I’m going to let him handle his job and I’m going to do my job.”

So whether or not the Minnesota Vikings do eventually sign Brett Favre, or stick with their two competing qb’s is unknown at this time. But know every one knows who Adrian Peterson is looking to be his QB.

In the end, for a Vikings offense in much need of a solid quarterback, whom ever they choose may just be the deciding factor in their shot at defending their NFC North title this year.

Minnesota Vikings’ Failure Is Brett Favre’s Second Retirement

For NFL fans, the Favre drama has ended…at least for now. The big story coming out of the NFL today was news that Brett Favre told Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress, and every other news media source enticed by the saga, that he will stay retired.

This coming after days of speculation that Brett Favre might come out of his second retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings of the NFC North. Vikings’ Childress was supposed to be meeting with Favre “later this week at an undisclosed location” to talk about him coming out of his second retirement to play for the Vikings.

However, Minnesota news station (KSTP) reported early this morning that Childress was seen entering the Vikings facility, Winter Park. A very different story than the Twin Cities’ newspaper (The Star Tribune) which reported that Brad Childress borded a commercial flight Wednesday night to Hettisburgh, Mississippi to discuss playing football again with the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

So misleading reports or not, it looks like the meeting never happened. Where do the Vikings go after this new failure?

Right back on track with their quarterback issues.

Right back to the QB competition that will start late May at Vikings training, camp that will pit former Houston Texans quarterback Sage Rosenfels, looking for his first starting job, against the four year wonder Tavaris Jackson.

Having a player with the experience like Brett Favre though would have solved the Vikings quarterback problems at least for a year or two. However, Favre has said he is staying retired, and for the Vikings it’s time for the team to move on and accept failure.

Something the Vikings are all too well with, including their failure to sign Free Agent wide receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh to a deal for a team in need of more “Dangerous” receivers, their only deep threat of course is ex-Chicago Bear receiver Bernard Berrian.

Now it’s time to move on to reality and look torwards the 2009 season and a starting quarterback.
