10 Surefire Fantasy Players That Will Carry You

As one grows up into an adult in the world of Fantasy Football, the lessons you learn are what makes the difference between actually looking forward to weeks 14-17, or just hopelessly glancing at that dreadful losers playoff bracket. So far I have learned two essential rules:

Stars carry you to the playoffs and depth is the building block to hoisting that beautiful trophy. Balancing these two is not an easy task, but is well worth the glory. Here’s 10 players that you can lean on to at least get you to December.

Remember to only take backs that get goal line carries, and to take receivers that have a large YPC average that score TD’s. Especially big tall receivers that get jump balls thrown at them.

Adrian Peterson- Shocker here. He did only have 10 TD’s but had 1,760 yards to go with it. Put his 4.8 yard average together with a pro bowl offensive line, and hes a workhorse. The past two years he’s had at least one run of over 67 yards for a TD. He also played in all 16 games last year and will get all the goal line carries.

*Projection: 1,700 yards with 19 td’s.

Matt Forte- Not only did he have over 1700 total yards and 12 total TD’s, he has Jay Cutler. Say goodbye to teams putting that extra safety in the box, not with Cutlers’ arm. Chicago will be back in the playoff hunt this year and that means no sophomore slump for ex Tulane bruiser.

*Projection: 1,650 total yards with 18 td’s.

Maurice Jones-Drew-  MJD had another great year behind Fred Taylor last year with over 1400 total yards and 14 td’s. He The bowling ball doesn’t have to worry anymore about sharing caries with old Freddy moving on to New England. The Jaguars also spent to high draft picks on premier offensive tackles in Aprils’ draft.

*Projection: 1800 total yards with 18 td’s.

Larry Fitzgerald- Fitz turned into last year what Dennis Green drafted him for with Kurt Warner chucking to him last season. He had over 1400 yards with 12 td’s while never missing a game.

Watching him play is like that kid in grade school who grew way faster than everyone else. He comes down with every jump ball and is obviously going to get his fair share of balls thrown his way.

I feel like he was way under utilized in the beginning of last season and I have no problem with anyone holding me to saying he can match what Randy Moss did in 2008. I know, I know, call me crazy. I’ll be laughing later.

*Projection: 1500 yards with 23 td’s.

Calvin Johnson- “Megatron” as they call him in Detroit would have just as big of a ceiling if he had a decent QB throwing him the ball. He had over 1300 yards with 12 Td’s (not to mention a long of 96 yds!).

He also tied for second in plays over 40 yards. Detroit will be better this season so it’s safe to say CJ will get his fair share. He is just plain bigger, faster, and stronger than everyone else. He will benefit from new OC Scott Linehans’ down field offense.

*Projection: 1500 yards with 17 td’s.

Tom Brady- The golden boy is back to prove offenses do win championships. He does have a bum leg, but a eight-year-old girl could take down Godzilla with old Billy Boy Belichick in her corner holding the clip board.

How good of a coach do you have to be to turn a kid whose never played a game of college ball in his life into a second round draft pick? A good one. Brady to Moss will be a nightmare of deja vu all year for opposing defenses.

*Projection: 4200 yards with 34 td’s

Arron Rodgers-  The former Cal Bear is both a threat at running and throwing the deep ball. He had four rushing touchdowns to go with his 28 strikes in the end zone (fourth best).  That’s not why I like him.

He had 16 plays that went over 40 yards which is tied for best in the league with Drew Brees. He is basically in his second year and primed for a breakout season.

*Projection: 4500 total yards with 30 td’s

Greg Jennings- Jennings is another big wide out that comes down with red zone balls. I don’t like him as much as Fitzgerald or Johnson, but teaming him up with Rodgers might be worth the risk. In each of his three seasons he has had a reception of 65 yards or more that goes for a touchdown.

He was first in the league with receptions over 40 yards with seven. The packers will be much better this year and when the team plays better overall, so do players.

*Projection: 1500 yards with 14 td’s

Randy Moss- Moss will drop in drafts this year but don’t let anyone tell you he deserves to. Brady to Moss will be back for blood. The Patriots offense is so receiver friendly and Brady will be targeting Moss all year. He is a red zone and deep threat as always. Belichick won’t let him play anything but his best.

*Projection: 1100 yards with 18 td’s

Peyton Manning- I almost didn’t include Manning just because it is so obvious. I think that he will make one more run for the Super Bowl but it just won’t be this year. He will get his 27 plus touchdowns but nothing like what he did in 2004. I would suggest waiting in later rounds to pick up Arron Rodgers.

*Projection: 4000 yards with 29 td’s

If you can grab a couple or few of these players you’ll be well on your way. They all have pretty good injury history except for Bradys’ fluke last year. Look for my article about later round players who will put you over the top.
