With the Cowboys trading away their first and a third round pick for WR Roy Williams, we won’t see them until the middle of the second round with the 51st pick in the draft. I agree with Richie Whitt, that they’ll take Oregon safety Patrick Chung.
Chung fits what Dallas needs most, a versatile safety that can play the run and the pass. Further down, look for Dallas to beef up their O-line and defensive backs.
Keith Brooking was a solid addition at linebacker, and will help provide some much needed leadership in the locker room, but for the long term someone like Chung could emerge as an effective leader.
As for T.O. I will miss his talent on the field, but not the drama off it. If I wanted that much drama I’d watch One Life to Live. Who knows, maybe in another year T.O. will make a cameo. Anyway, it was a gamble, and all Cowboys fans can do is cross their fingers for Roy to pan out as a No. 1 wide out.
I don’t think it’s fair to judge Roy Williams based on last season; he was added part way through the year and never effectively built into the offense. If Williams can take the top spot, Dallas has enough depth at WR with Crayton, Austin, and Hurd.
Now there are no excuses—a successful Cowboys season will have the offense firing on all cylinders. With the offense functioning, that should allow the defense to stay energized and play as well as they did last year.
Much of the defensive troubles that did occur came late in the game, after the offense struggled and they were not able to regroup. I still have nightmare flashbacks to that Baltimore game.
