Last year, the Cleveland Browns were bad. But after this offseason, they got even worse.

After firing head coach Romeo Crennel, they hired former Jets head coach Eric Mangini to run the team. Mangini came in here hoping to improve the team, but it looks like all he wanted to do was bring in former New York Jet players.

The Browns needed to add stars in during free agency. They added a lot of former New York Jet players, but none of them are stars. They are back ups on a 9-7 team. Sadly enough to say but tight end Robert Royal was the teams best pick up as he replaces Kellen Winslow, who was traded to the Buccaneers.

1(21). Alex Mack, C. Draft Grade: C-

2(4). Brian Robiskie, WR. Draft Grade: B+

2(18). Mohamed Massaquoi, WR. Draft grade: B

2(20). David Veikune, OLB. Draft Grade: C+

4(4). Kaluka Maiava, LB. Draft Grade: B

6(18). Corey Francois, CB. Draft grade: B+

6(32). James Davis, RB. Draft Grade: A

  • The Cleveland Browns traded down repeatedly to select center Alex Mack with the 21st overall pick. I didn’t like this pick because the Browns have so many other needs besides offensive line, where they have spent a lot on that position.
  • The Browns selected two Receivers in the second round with Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi. These two should help take pressure off of Braylon Edwards, who could still be traded.
  • The other second round pick was Linebacker David Veikune. He should help pressure the quarterback which the Browns failed to do last year.
  • USC had so many good linebackers last year that their wasn’t any room for linebacker Kaluka Maiava to start, but I think he could surprise.
  • The Browns selected two cornerbacks in the sixth round with Don Carey and Corey Francois. I don’t like Carey but i had Francois going in the second round, so I think he was a nice steal for the Browns.
  • Running Back James Davis could have been a early second round pick if he came out his junior year. He struggled a little in his senior year, but I still think he could be a starter in the NFL. Another good steal for the Browns.

Draft Grade: B. The Browns sent their fifth overall pick to the Jets so they could select quarterback Mark Sanchez. During that trade the Browns acquired safety Abram Elam, defensive end Kenyon Coleman and quarterback Brett Ratliff.

That helped this draft grade a little, but I still felt like they needed to select someone besides a Center in the first round. I like the picks they made in Robiskie, Francois and Davis.

Breakout Player: Brady Quinn.

Overall, I think the Browns improved in the draft, but that’s about all. They lost more then they gained in free agency, so don’t look for this team to be any better this year.

Braylon Edwards is the only “Star Player” on this team, and their is still a chance he could be traded. If so, rookies Brian Robiskie and Muhamed Massaquoi will step in as the starters. I think the Browns have potential, but this just won’t be there year.

Projected Record: 2-14.
