The Bears tried acquiring Anquan Boldin during the NFL Draft, but the Arizona Cardinals wanted a first-rounder in return for the Pro Bowl receiver.
The Bears didn’t have a first-round pick in this year’s draft (or next year’s) because of the Jay Cutler trade.
If the Bears acquired the 29-year-old Boldin, they would be favorites to win the Super Bowl, in my opinion.
Not only would the offense be really, really good, but the defense would be even better because they wouldn’t have to be on the field as much, thus not being too tired like in years past.
Imagine Devin Hester lined up with Anquan Boldin, plus weapons like Matt Forte, Greg Olsen, and Dez Clark.
Jay Cutler would have plenty of targets.
Boldin’s agent Drew Rosenhaus recently sent out a message via his Twitter account saying that he expects Boldin to be traded before training camp.
Bears GM Jerry Angelo had this to say about possibily making a trade for Anquan Boldin:
I’m not going to say “No” to anything, things have changed now from when we were exploring that before. But [Rosenhaus] also made the statement that someone was going to give the Cardinals a first-round pick. That’s part of the salesmanship for his client. I don’t know what Arizona is going to do. [Boldin] is under contract. We really can’t talk about that. Just leave it at that.

Jay Cutler spoke today about his transition into the Bears offense this off-season as the new signal caller:
“It’s getting good, I’ve been able to meet with [Turner and quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton] and go over a lot of stuff and do some field work, so it’s coming along. It’s all West Coast offense, so it’s really similar to what I’m already used to [from playing with the Broncos].
"The way it’s phrased is different. What we called stuff in Denver might be a little different here. But the way you spit it out is the same.”
Quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton spoke about Cutler today:
“Jay’s a pro, he’s very sharp. He’s picking it up extremely well. After we finish our offseason workout sessions out on the field, he spends extra time here not just studying the playbook but spending time with coach Turner going through the [videotape] cutups from last year. He has amazing arm talent, he can make all the throws with ease.
"What a lot of people don’t realize about Jay Cutler—and I didn’t realize this about him prior to him joining the Bears—is that he’s a really good athlete. He has extremely quick feet. Not often do you see quarterbacks who can make the tough throws without their feet being in a perfect position, and he’s one of those guys.
"That’s not something that you can teach or work on out on the field during a drill session. That’s just a gift that he has the ability with his arm talent just to make some amazing throws.”
Cutler thought the Bears have a lot of weapons on offense, HUH?
“We’ve got a lot of weapons here, coming from Denver, we had a lot of weapons out there. It’s similar with Greg [Olsen] and Dez [Clark] at the tight end position, and then you’ve got Devin [Hester], Earl [Bennett], Rashied [Davis] and Brandon Rideau, so it’s good.
"And we’ll get some of the rookies in here and see if they can add a little bit of depth for us.”

Four days after the release of former Pro Bowl running back Edgerrin James, I wondered if the Chicago Bears would actually try to sign him.
I know Edge is getting up there in age, but he might still have a couple of good years left in the tank.
Edge would be an excellent complement back to Matt Forte.
Many teams in the league have three solid running backs, I mean look at the Giants last season, they had Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, and Ahmad Bradshaw.
If the Bears add Edge they could have him, Matt Forte, and Kevin Jones.
This move would be good, only if Edge doesn’t ask for too much money because everyone knows the Bears owners are pretty stingy, plus they have to sign Jay Cutler to a long deal soon.
Edge was great with the Indianapolis Colts, but when he came over to the Cardinals, there offensive line didn’t really help him gel with the team.
In his 10 seasons, he’s started over 140 games, rushing for over 12,00 yards and scoring 80 touchdowns on the ground, while averaging a 4.1 yards per carry.
In his last season with the Colts (2005), Edge ran for over 1500 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground.
In his first two seasons with the Cardinals, he ran for 1,300 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground.
But last season he was benched in seven games last season in favor of rookie Tim Hightower.
He ran for only 514 yards and scored only three times on the ground, those were career lows for Edge.
Edge is 11th on the NFL career rushing list.
The Bears should add this 31 year old runner, who looked pretty solid in the playoffs last season.
What do you think?

The Bears signed nine undrafted rookie free agents to contracts today and gave them a shot to fight for a spot on the roster.
They picked up Johan Asiata (guard) from UNLV, Dennis Conley (guard) from Hampton, Dahna Deleston (safety) from Connecticut, Tyrell Fenroy (running back) from LA – Lafayette, Kevin Malast (linebacker) from Rutgers, Eric Peterman (wide receiver) from Northwestern, Mike Rivera (linebacker) from Kansas, Will Ta’ufo’ou (fullback) from California,Woodny Turenne (defensive back) from Louisville.
Breaking Down These Players:
1) John Asiata (YO-han AH-c-AH-ta) – G/T from UNLV, played at Yuba Junior College from 2004-2005, was redshirted in 2006 at UNLV, started twelve games at right tackle in 2007 and started twelve games at left guard in 2008. He has a shot to make the roster. Maybe because there thin at the guard position, he’ll have a shot.
2) Dennis Conley- Guard from Hampton, Conley was a tight end in high school, but moved to left guard for the Pirates, where he earned a first-team All-MEAC in 2007. He is an under the radar player, because he played for a FCS (formerly Division I-AA) school. He could make the team because of the lack of depth at the guard position.
3) Dahna Deleston– Safety from Connecticut, played linebacker in college, recording four career interceptions, but played in only five games last season. Special teams player at best.
4) Tyrell Fenroy– Running Back from LA- Lafayette is a four year starter on La.-Laf. teams that were top 20 in the country in rushing offense every year… over 1,000 yards rushing every year… one of only seven players ever to rush for 1,000 yards four straight years. At 5′8″, 191 he uses his speed to break by defenders. Could battle Garrett Wolfe for final RB spot on roster.
5) Kevin Malast– Linebacker from Rutgers is 6′2″, 205 pounds and ran a 4.58 second 40 yard dash. Could battle Marcus Freeman and Joey Larocque for last LB spot on roster.
6) Eric Peterman– Wide Receiver from Northwestern, the 6′1″ Peterman ran a 4.50 second 40 yard dash and could be in the mix for a spot on the roster, most likely contributing on special teams. Peterman had 59 receptions, 737 yards and six touchdowns last season at Northwestern. A very nice pickup.
7) Mike Rivera– Linebacker from Kansas a 6-2, 245 pounder, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds, but had a weak senior season for the Jayhawks.
8) Will Ta’ufo’ou (tau-FOE-oh)– Fullback from Cal, my favorite pickup out of all these players. Ta’ufo’ou had interest from more than half of the teams in the league, but ultimately picked the Bears because he can compete with Jason McKie for the starting job. Many say he was the best fullback in the entire draft.
9) Woodny Turenne– Defensive Back from Louisville, a 6′1″, 182 pound corner, who transferred from a junior college to Louisville in 2007, could battle Marcus Hamilton for last cornerback spot.
