This Draft Is All About Mark Sanchez, Aquan Boldin and Braylon Edwards

I wrote back in March based on something called common sense that this draft would be shaped by what happens to Mark Sanchez.

I assumed that if Stafford went off the board that Sanchez, as the one remaining quarterback in this draft with any chance of becoming a franchise altering figure in the next three or four years, would become the hottest ticket in the draft.

No offense to Josh Freeman but it is going to take a significant amount of time and patience before he is a starting quarterback in the NFL. I think he will be one but not by 2010, which is what everyone is betting on with Sanchez and Stafford. I think their learning curves are less steep then Freeman’s will be.

My new headline is that Braylon Edwards will go off the board in a trade tomorrow before either Maclin or Crabtree are drafted by an NFL team. I have been amazed at the love affair the national media have with Crabtree and Maclin.

Both are good football players and I think both will be good professional football players, but neither command being drafted in the top 15 picks in any draft, not even one as thin in sure fire impact players as this one.

Wide receivers in general are a crapshoot.

(I notice Raiderbeat.com has a post with a similar take on what the Raiders should do.)
