NFL Football Players Draft Injuries Rookies Season SuperbowlPublished: April 21, 2009
I think it is safe to say that the Lions’ No. 1 selction will be announced soon, very soon. Martin Mayhew has said that there is a good chance that they will sign that selection before draft day. He has been saying this all along, and most recently today.
This means that they know who they are going to take. If the selection is Matthew Stafford, that will be the final straw for many Lions fans. And that is definitely the case for me as well.
I have a been a Georgia fan for the past eight seasons, paying attention to recruiting and watching all of the games that are on TV. I saw Stafford come up and he is nowhere near that of John Navarre from when he came up through Michigan.
Drafting Matthew Stafford is not the answer with that pick. Aaron Curry is, however. Jason Smith is as well. I would rather see them draft Percy Harvin at No. 1 overall, yeah I said it.
At least you know that you will have production on offense and special teams. Matthew Stafford is not deserving of the prestige that the No. 1 pick brings.
This would be the busts of all busts. Then I hear “experts” say that Curry would be a five-time Pro Bowler at the least, yet taking Stafford No. 1 is the choice that “needs” to be made.
What is that? When is the last time Detroit had a five-time Pro Bowler? Barry Sanders.
So if Matthew Stafford is the selection, I will thereby resign as a Lions fan, and be a Texans fan for all I care.
