Brett Favre Cut by New York Jets: Here We Go Again?

I read a story earlier this morning alluding to the possibility of another Brett Favre un-retirement, but dismissed it at the time as pure conjecture and rumor-mongering.

Well, it turns out ProFootballTalk may have been on to something.

The New York Jets have officially cut ties with retired-quarterback Brett Favre, clearing the way for Favre to stay retired or sign with any team of his choosing. Favre apparently asked for his release a few weeks ago from the Jets organization, but perhaps in an effort to disguise their draft plans the Jets refused that request.

Until tonight.

What PFT alluded to in referencing Favre this morning was the potential scenario of a Favre return to the very team he wished to play for last season, the Minnesota Vikings. His current desire if he has it, to play in Minnesota, may have been strengthened by the team’s addition of play-making wide receiver Percy Harvin via the NFL Draft.

If Favre does indeed have the “itch” to play again, I have a feeling Brad Childress and the Vikings would listen.

Daily Haze

Rejoice, football fans: The most important NFL weekend of the spring is upon us all.

Gotta touch up on some prospect knowledge, and since the first round does not start until 4 p.m. EST there is plenty of time tomorrow morning/afternoon to cram. But if you already are on NFL Draft knowledge and information overload, spend tomorrow morning preparing some classic football snacks for the big event.

Or, if you are anything like me, you can start preparing for the 2009 fantasy football season by getting familiar with all of the skill position rookies snagged tomorrow, how they fit in with their new teams, and where they fall in fantasy mock drafts. It is never to early to start those cheat sheets!

Here are today’s great reads:

  • It seems the Lions are having trouble deciding between Aaron Curry and Matt Stafford, or is it just a little financial jockeying on their part? [Shutdown Corner]
  • So much for Tony G to the Eagles: The Falcons made a big splash two days before the draft by acquiring Gonzalez for a second-round pick. [The Big Lead]
  • Now the Eagles might be more inclined to pursue Anquan Boldin, whose namesake in this draft class could be Michael Crabtree. [Pro-Football-Reference]
