Mitch Holthus and Len Dawson are the classic play-by-play and color commentator duo. Holthus is the picture and Dawson is the color that brings it to life. This article is dedicated to their commitment to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Since taking over for Kevin Harlan in 1994, Mitch Holthus has been the “Voice of the Chiefs.” Mitch’s critical analysis of the Chiefs over the past 15 years is true journalism. His only bias is his love of the Chiefs.
Mitch’s television series, “Minute with Mitch” is a unique look at a member of the Chiefs’ family. Over the past two years, Mitch’s critical insight into the Chief organization has been a refreshing divergence from the writers at kcchiefs.com.
Hearing Mitch say “Touchdown Kansas City” has been one of the few pleasures over the past two seasons.
Holthus graduated from Kansas State in 1979 with a degree in journalism and is originally from Smith Center, KS.
Len Dawson is a true son of the Chiefs. In fact, Dawson knew the Chiefs before they even existed. In 1962, Len Dawson became the starting QB for the Dallas Texans.
The next year the Texans would move to Kansas City and become the Chiefs. In 1969, Dawson came back from a knee injury to quarterback the Chiefs to their only Super Bowl win, beating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
While juggling a successful football career, Dawson made time to become a broadcaster. In 1966, he became Sports Director of KMBC, channel 9. Dawson has never looked back since.
Len has hosted HBO sports show “Inside the NFL” for 22 years and has offered his opinion on most, if not all, of Kansas City’s networks.
Dawson currently works as a Color Analyst with the Chiefs Radio Network. He works along side Mitch Holthus. Dawson’s unique knowledge of the game and his past history makes him special in the Chiefs kingdom.
Both Holthus and Dawson bring experience and unwavering devotion to their listeners.
These guys might not be two of a kind, but they are two of the best.
