Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry has been involved in a serious accident.

As to be expected, rumors are flying across the web with details and accounts of what has actually happened.

According to WLWT in Cincinnati, Henry was arguing with his fiancee when she got into a pickup truck and started to leave the area.  Henry apparently jumped in the back of the truck and fell out as she drove away.  His injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

The incident occurred in Charlotte, where Henry’s fiancee lives.  The wide receiver suffered a broken arm and was placed on injured reserve on November 9th, ending his season.

Time Machine: Bengals Clinch AFC North on Dec. 18, 2005

Published: December 3, 2009

With the Lions set to take on the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium on Sunday, I can’t help but think of Dec. 18, 2005. On a frigid day in Detroit, the Bengals throttled the Lions 41-17 and clinched the AFC North division title.

After years of watching miserable football, Bengals fans were finally able to think about the playoffs. The team was 11-3 and on a roll, having just won three in a row against the other teams in their division.

On the way to Detroit, we saw many cars with Bengals flags and stickers. We arrived at Ford Field early and walked down to the front row to watch the team warm up. “Bengal Buddies,” as my daughter used to call the other fans dressed in orange and black, were everywhere.

Some of us could remember the days of Ken Anderson and Boomer Esiason. We had seen the team win and suffered through the miserable 1990s. The younger fans were experiencing winning football for the first time.

We walked around Ford Field and found an area where kids were able to get their faces painted. There was a group of women in Lions jerseys doing the painting in return for a charitable donation, which I was glad to give.

My daughter asked to have her face painted like a Bengal tiger. To my surprise, her request was initially denied. As we stood in shock because some loser refused to paint a two-year-old’s face, another lady agreed to help us out.

We made our way to our seats, dressed in our Bengals gear and brimming with confidence. The feeling was one not often experienced by a Bengals fan in recent years. Our team was clearly superior to the competition. It is really cool to visit another NFL team’s stadium knowing that your team is going to issue a beatdown.

The Bengals did just that. Carson Palmer completed 28 of 39 passes for 271 yards and three touchdowns. Rudi Johnson rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

I remember talking to a Lions fan toward the end of the game. He talked about the Bengals offense and how the Lions franchise was in disarray. I remember telling him that I knew his pain and to hang in there. The feeling was surreal. The Bengals were AFC North Champions!

The 2009 Bengals are a much different team than the one that hammered the Lions four years ago. However, the ultimate goal is still the same.

Cincinnati Bengals: Week 12 Report Card

Published: November 30, 2009

For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Bengals have run the table in their division.  With a 16-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns, the Bengals finished the AFC North portion of their schedule with a perfect 6-0 record.  Marvin Lewis saw his team carry out what has become a familiar but effective game plan.

Offense

When the Bengals did throw the ball, Carson Palmer seemed out of sync with his receivers.  He totaled just 110 yards passing, but did connect with J.P. Foschi for the game’s only touchdown.  Cedric Benson was not active for the game but the Bengals didn’t miss a beat with the tandem of Larry Johnson and Bernard Scott.  They rushed for 107 and 87 yards, respectively.  The tight ends and offensive line also deserve credit as the Bengals averaged 4.7 yards per carry as a team.  Grade: C .

Defense

Offensively, the Browns are horrible.  When Brady Quinn did have time to throw, he was erratic.  However, when a defense holds an NFL offense (sort of) to 169 yards, it should be considered a good day.  Jamal Lewis gained just 40 yards on the ground, his largest gain being six yards.  It was the seventh straight game that the Bengals defense has not allowed 100 yards rushing, a franchise record.  Grade: A .

Special Teams

The Bengals did not give Joshua Cribbs the opportunity to burn them returning punts.  Kevin Huber punted five times, three of which went out of bounds.  Shayne Graham kicked three field goals.  Grade: A .

Ben Roethlisberger Blames Loss to Bengals on Weather, Fans

Published: November 20, 2009

I did not wake up this morning with the intention of writing another post about the Bengals’ victory over the Steelers, but the events of the day have changed my agenda.

Of course, I still hate the Steelers and would never balk at the opportunity to rip on them in some fashion, but I really was ready to move on from last week. The Ohio State-Michigan game is this weekend, and the Bengals will be in Oakland to take on the Raiders.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since Sunday, Ben Roethlisberger said , “I didn’t feel great, my arm didn’t feel good and that first drive, we connected a few times, went down the field, had to scramble. I kind of thought, ‘OK, shut that funk off.’ And then it never quite came around.”

I am literally staring at the computer with a perplexed look on my face. Is he incapable of uttering a complete sentence?

Roethlisberger babbles on to say that something didn’t feel right, referencing the warm weather and dejected crowd at Heinz Field. Santonio Holmes chimed in to say that Roethlisberger’s perception of the surroundings was probably the reason the Steelers lost.

How about the fact that the Bengals defense slammed him to the turf four times? How about Bernard Scott’s 96-yard kick return for a touchdown? I am no expert, but those factors might have played a part in the outcome of the game as well.

Excuses, excuses…

I was going to say that most Pittsburgh fans would be embarrassed at the comments of these two clueless dolts…then I saw this picture . The fans already have enough to worry about. God help their children.

Bengals Complete Sweep of Steelers

Published: November 15, 2009

There are not many things in the sports world sweeter than a win over your biggest rival. It is even better when the rival and their fan base are arrogant jerks who think they are in a class by themselves when they are clearly not.

The Steelers are a good team, but the Bengals are better. Hardly anyone gave the Bengals a chance, but they stuck to their game plan. That game plan resulted in a 18-12 victory.

The offense was able to move the football and converted some tough third downs. They were not able to put the ball in the end zone, but got close enough for Shayne Graham to kick four field goals.

The only touchdown of the game was a kickoff return by Bernard Scott in the first quarter.

The Bengals defense was incredible. I cannot say enough about this bunch. They kept “Big Ben” and company out of the end zone.

Mike Zimmer has done a great job and the players are executing the plan. The best thing about the play of the Bengals defense was not having to look at Hines Ward’s disgusting grin all afternoon.

For Bengals Fans, It’s a Small World After All

Published: November 4, 2009

Being with my family at Disney World has moved blogging to the bottom of my to-do list. However, right now, my wife and kids are taking shelter from the sun as I wait in a seemingly endless line for ice cream.

My BlackBerry allowed me to keep an eye on the whoopin’ the Bengals applied to the Bears on Sunday. It felt like each time I refreshed the browser on my phone, the Bengals had scored another touchdown.

The offense could not be stopped on the ground or through the air. Cedric Benson ran over, around, and through his former team. Carson Palmer and his corps of receivers shredded the Bears secondary.

Because of the heat, I opted for a simple Bengals t-shirt instead of my usual gameday jersey. That t-shirt and the Bengals playing so well prompted many a “Who Dey” cheers from other people at the park. There were numerous encounters with people asking if I had heard the score or if I could believe how well the Bengals were playing.

It was great to see other people in Bengals attire so far away from home. I guess it really is a small world after all.

Ochocinco Joins Mainstream Media

Published: November 4, 2009

Each time you think Chad Ochocinco has provided fans with the ultimate entertainment experience, he takes it to the next level. What started as Twitter messages and Ustream videos evolved into an application for the Apple iPhone, allowing users an in-depth look at the Bengals receiver.

Ochocinco has now announced that he is entering the field of mainstream media with the Ocho Cinco News Network (OCNN). With technology provided by Motorola, the OCNN will provide inside information from throughout the NFL. Ochocinco will turn to his friends in the league to get the scoops that reporters normally would not have access to.

How can this be a tremendous innovation? With access to players and coaches on a personal level, Ochocinco can provide a level of intimacy never experienced before by an NFL fan.

How can this fail? Many teams have developed policies against tweeting and disciplined players for “leaking” information. If players don’t reveal anything special, then the format would cease to be unique.

However, one thing that Ochocinco has always been is unique.

Texans-Bengals: Cincinatti Winning Streak Comes to Screeching Halt

Published: October 18, 2009

A strong running attack, aggressive defense, and late-game heroics by the offense have been qualities that earned the Bengals first place in the AFC North.  Unfortunately for Marvin Lewis and company, none of those were prevalent today.

The Bengals scored 10 points in the final 48 seconds of the first half.  After taking a 17-14 lead into the locker room at halftime, they completely imploded in the second half.

Cedric Benson had just 44 yards on 16 carries.  He only carried the ball four times in the second half.

Houston quarterback Matt Schaub completed 28 of 40 passes for 392 yards and four touchdowns.  A two-score deficit and Carson Palmer interception late in the game ensured that the “Cardiac Cats” would not be pulling off a win today.

Dropped passes and fumbles seemed to be the theme du jour for the Bengals offense.

The defense also had a case of stone-hands against the Texans.  Johnathan Joseph dropped a would-be interception that he could have easily returned for a touchdown.

Defensive end Antwan Odom suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon.  Lewis called the situation “pretty severe.”

They will have more information tomorrow—as will I.

Chad Ochocinco and Motorola Help Cincinnati Bengals Fans

Published: October 18, 2009

For the second time this season, the Cincinnati Bengals faced a television blackout due to the upcoming home game not being a sellout.  Many people have chastised Bengals fans for not supporting their team.  Players, members of the media, and other fans have encouraged people to buy tickets and support the team.

I will not be at today’s game because of my son’s flag-football game.  If my family had no plans today, we would be sitting in Paul Brown Stadium.  However, I don’t think I have the right to tell other people how to spend their money.

If you are a fan and have a ticket to the game, having it be a sellout would indeed create a better atmosphere and home-field advantage for the Bengals.  If you didn’t buy a ticket, you have no right to tell other people to spend their money so you can watch it on television.

Receiver Chad Ochocinco decided to take action to ensure that the game would be on television and some fans would be able to attend for free.  An announcement was made on Friday that Motorola and Ochocinco had partnered to purchase the remainder of the tickets and distribute them to fans on Saturday morning.

Those fans that chose to wait in the cold for free tickets were greeted by Ochocinco, fresh off the practice field and giving high-fives to his adoring followers.

Publicity stunt or not, everybody wins.  Hopefully, the Bengals do too today against the Texans.
