NFL Football Players Draft Injuries Rookies Season SuperbowlPublished: December 31, 2009
The 2009 New York Giants were a big dissapointment to all Giants fans around the world. The team started off going 5-0 but have gone down to a record of 8-7 and have missed the playoffs for the first time in a while.
The same dissapointment happend with the 2009 Giants Draft Class. Jerry Reese had been amazing at drafting for the Giants until this year. In fact, Reese picked up Ahmad Bradshaw in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
This draft class had been hyped during the preseason but hardly produced what was once thought. Other than a few the 2009 New Yor Giants did not play well or will hardly even given a chance. Let’s hope next year’s draft class will produce and play well and that this year’s class will produce next season.

How is it that one of the best wide receivers in NFL history, Marvin Harrison, has gone through the whole 2009 NFL season and has not been signed to a team?
Harrison is currently a 37-year-old free agent, but still can play I believe.
Harrison was originally selected 19th in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Colts, who he would play for his whole career as of now. As a member of the Colts, Harrison had some great years, along with then teammates Reggie Wayne and Peyton Manning.
Harrison was a starting wide receiver for the Colts for many years. Surprisingly, Harrison asked for his release from the Colts this offseason and the Colts decided to grant Harrison his release. The Colts were left with Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez, who has been frequently injured this season for the Colts.
Even though the Colts no longer have Harrison, they have had an amazing undefeated season so far.
Harrison has been a free agent all of this 2009 NFL season, even though many teams around the NFL could use an experienced, eight-time Pro Bowler at the wide receiver position.
What really surprises me is that the Steelers recently signed Joey Galloway, who is a year older than Harrison.
Though Galloway has played this season and Harrison has not, Harrison is a much better player.
How is it that Galloway is signed after only being a free agent for a few months, but Harrison has been a free agent the whole year?
Harrison is a eight-time Pro Bowler while Galloway has been an alternate four times. Harrison also holds many NFL receiving records, while Galloway has never been.
I personally wonder if Harrison has played his last NFL game, even though I certainly hope he has not, but the signing of Galloway by the Steelers brings you the question: Why is Harrison still a free agent?
There is no correct answer to that question, it is still a mystery. Why is Harrison still a free agent? NFL fans, we may never know why such a prolific NFL star is still not playing.

Kenny Britt has had a great rookie season so far for the Tennessee Titans. Britt has played very well for his new squad but has been given no publicity. Here is some information on those who are not familiar with Britt.
Britt was born in New Jersey and attended his hometown college, Rutgers. In his freshman season he was named one of the two starting wide receivers for the Scarlet Knights. In 2006, Rutgers arguably had its best year ever. Britt, along with fellow NFL player and Rutgers alum Ray Rice, were major reasons for this.
In Britt’s second year of college football he was named to the All-Big-East Second Team. Britt led all of college football in receiving in his sophomore year.
Last year (Britt’s last year in college football), Britt was an Associated Press Third-Team All-American and was named to the All-Big-East First Team, rather than Second Team like the year before.
After his junior year, Britt decided he would skip his senior year and enter the 2009 NFL Draft.
Britt was selected with the 30th pick in the first round by the Tennessee Titans. In his first NFL season, Britt has played very well. But sadly he is probably not being considered for the Rookie of the Year Award, even though he should be.
This season, Britt currently has 38 receptions along with 642 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
NFL fans, in the next year or two, expect Britt to be a star for the Titans.

Yesterday, yet again, a sliding problem happened for a New York NFL team.
After making a key interception, the Giants received the ball around the Eagles’ 30-yard line. Eli Manning had no one to throw to so he took a run to the left.
Eli ran for the first down, but as he fell, he fumbled the ball. Granted, Manning was touched as he was running it. So it could have been called either that Manning was down or fumbled the ball.
The refs decided not to change the fumble call. If the Giants scored at that point and the fumble had not occurred, the game may have been tied in the fourth quarter. This play brought back memories of the recent Jets game when Mark Sanchez injured himself while taking a slide for a first down.
Reportedly the Jets even brought in Joe Girardi a couple days before to work with Sanchez on his sliding.
Due to Sanchez’s injury he could not play this weekend for the Jets against Tampa Bay. This injury would be no problem for the Jets, as they demolished the Buccaneers 26-3.
Kellen Clemens, in his first start for the Jets in two years, threw 12-for-23 and had 111 passing yards.
Mark Sanchez is expected to practice this week but as of now his status is uncertain.
These recent problems with QBs sliding brought me to this question: Did Rex Ryan and Tom Coughlin forget to coach the quarterbacks on how to slide?
Granted there are reasons for the problems with sliding. Eli was playing in slippery conditions and may have been hit on the way down, and Sanchez is a young QB learning the ropes of being an NFL QB.
However, all they are doing is sliding which is not a very hard thing to do for a QB rather than trying to get away from an incoming tackler. I certainly hope the two New York QBs will have help with their sliding by coaches Rex Ryan and Tom Coughlin and not bring in Joe Girardi to help an NFL QB.

49ers captain, Patrick Willis is currently having the best season in his young NFL career. Willis currently leads all the NFL in tackles.
Willis, originally the 11th player taken in the 2007 NFL Draft has played better this year than he ever had before and he played well even in those years.
Since coming to the NFL in 2007, Willis has been a member of the NFC Pro Bowl team both season and has also been an All-Pro selection both seasons. Willis also won the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2007.
I personally believe Willis is the best defensive player in the NFL but to some NFL fans Patrick Willis is not even a household name.
Currently the 49ers stand at 5-7 and are basically out of the playoff hunt but Willis has continued to shine for the 49ers’ defense.
Willis is very confident in the 49ers defense even though they stand at 5-7 this weekend he said this about his opponents the Cardinals “We know that they’re not going to run the ball on us. They will not run the ball on us.”
I was very surprised that Willis said this being that the Cardinals are one of the NFC’s best teams but then I realized Patrick Willis is the best defensive player in the NFL he should be confident, if he played for a good team he would definitely be this years’ NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Currently this season, Willis has an NFL high in tackles with 123 and Willis also has three sacks. I expect Willis to have 150 tackles by the end of the year.
Though the Bengals are 5-7 I feel that Patrick Willis is very deserving of the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award and I believe if he was on a good NFL team he would definitely get the award.

So far in the Wade Phillips era the Dallas Cowboys have yet to win a playoff game. Though this may not be his fault he is frequently jabbed at by comments by Jerry Jones and the media.
Currently the Cowboys are 8-4 and atop the NFC East along with the Eagles but in the near future the Cowboys will be playing against some very tough teams.
First off today the Cowboys will be facing the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers are currently 9-3 and arguably the second best team in the AFC behind the Colts along with the Bengals.
Antonio Gates and Phillip Rivers have had amazing seasons for the Chargers this year while LaDainian Tomlinson has had one of his worst years of his NFL career. I don’t know who will win this game but I definitely believe this will be a great game.
Then comes the undefeated New Orleans Saints on December 19. The Saints have already been rewarded with the NFC South.
The Saints are an unbelievable team, the team is great at defense, Darren Sharper while Drew Brees has had an MVP season and has become the toast of New Orleans. The Cowboys may got lucky in this game though and may be playing against the Saints’ backups since they have already won the division and are in the playoffs.
The comes most likely the easiest game remaining on the Cowboys’ schedule a game against the Redskins on December 27. The Redskins are currently last in the NFC East. The Redskins may also be looking for a new coach this off season just as the Cowboys may be.
The Redskins have had leads into the fourth quarter the past three weeks yet they have lost all three of those games.
Last comes the Eagles on January 3. The Eagles are currently tied with Cowboys atop the NFC East. The Eagles are facing the Giants this week in a game I expect to be great.
The Eagles have played well on both sides of the ball including Donovan McNabb being healthy for most of the season.
With all these difficult games it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys can get in the playoffs. If they don’t, expect to see a new coach in Dallas next year.

Every NFL season at the Pro Bowl the NFL’s best come to play. You get to see things like Peyton throwing to Moss or Brees to Fitzgerald.
The Pro Bowl is a game of the elite even though the game does not count it symbolizes that the players in it are one the best in their conference at their position.
This season I believe the NFC offense will have many first time Pro Bowlers may it be a QB, RB or WR. These players have stood out this season and people have taken notice and deserve to be in the Pro Bowl.

Every year the Associated Press votes for the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. This season there seems to be so many choices for the coveted award.
Chad Pennington is a two-time winner of the Comeback Player of the Year Award and don’t be suprised if Pennington puts another one of those on his trophy shelf after next season.
But lets get back to this season. The award is given to a player coming back from an injury or just not a very good year. One obvious contender is Patriots QB, Tom Brady who will probably be the eventual winner of the award. But there are many other contenders for the award.

The Jets lost 16-13 in overtime yesterday to the Buffalo Bills. A big reason for this loss was rookie QB Mark Sanchez. Sanchez blamed himself for the Jets loss.
Sanchez had the worst game of his young career, going 10 for 29 with five interceptions.
Sanchez’s stats so far this season include five touchdown passes, ten interceptions, and 1,035 passing yards with a QB rating of 56.7.
Near the beginning of the season Sanchez was the toast of New York. Since week four, Sanchez has only thrown one touchdown pass and has eight interceptions. It’s hard to not think that backup QB Kellen Clemens will not get a chance at the starting job soon.
In training camp, Clemens and Sanchez were both up for the starting QB job. Sanchez was named starter near the middle of the preseason. I thought this was a terrible idea due to the fact that Sanchez is a rookie.
While Clemens’ pro career has been nothing to brag about, he is a much more experienced QB than Sanchez.
Clemens was chosen 49th overall in the 2006 NFL Draft out of Oregon.
In Clemens’ second year in the NFL, he started eight games for the Jets. His stats were very similar to those of Sanchez. Clemens threw for five touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 1,529 passing yards with a QB rating of 60.9.
Since that year Clemens has only thrown five passes due to the fact that Brett Favre was signed to the team.
Despite that Clemens’ stats are not very good, it is hard to disagree that he does not deserve a chance to start at QB due to the fact that he has been a member of the Jets for four years and probably knows the playbook better than Sanchez.
Even though Sanchez is having a bad year I believe he will be a top-20 QB in the near future, but as of now I think Clemens should come in and take the job for the rest of the year.
Sanchez is the future but Clemens is now. Clemens has been a Jet for awhile and deserves a shot at starting again.
