TAB’s Top 20 Favorite Chicago Bears Since 1980

Why 1980? It’s when I was born.

No, Jay Cutler does not make this list. Well, he gets his photo here, so I guess that somehow qualifies him as an honorable mention candidate.

In the last 30 years there have been some great highs and some deep lows, with characters leading along the way that Chicago football fans will always remember.

A few names that won’t make this list include Rashan Salaam, Curtis Enis and the ultimate d-bag, Cedric Benson. There are certainly more than 20 great personalities and players I could have ranked, but this is my Top 20.

Hillenmeyer Hunting for a New Job? Chicago Bears Sign LB Tinoisamoa

On Friday, the Chicago Bears came to terms with former St. Louis Rams linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa on a one-year contract.

Tinoisamoa had led the Rams in tackles in four of the past six seasons, including a stellar 2008 campaign in which he recorded 135 tackles (88 solo). He will likely start next to Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs this season.

For the record, I am absolutely using cut and paste to continually refer to Tinoisamoa.

The problem created by this signing is that the must easier spelled Hunter Hillenmeyer might have become the only Vanderbilt graduate without job security in Bears camp.

Hillenmeyer, drafted in 2003, struggled with health issues last year, limiting him to just 18 tackles (14 solo) in 13 games. He was in danger of losing his starting job to Nick Roach this summer without the addition of Tinoisamoa.

Tinoisamoa played for Bears’ head coach Lovie Smith in St. Louis in 2003. He was drafted in the second round before that season, the same draft as Hillenmeyer.

Tinoisamoa will also replace Adewale Ogunleye on the Bears roster as being the player who’s name is worth the most Scrabble points.

ESPN’s Frankenstein Monster: Brett Favre Un-Retirement Rumors

ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre is not interested in coming out of retirement.

Every day.

All day.

The news part of the story is that ESPN has nobody to fill their man crush void if Favre actually stays retired, so they’re going to keep his career on life support until every snap is taken by a healthy quarterback in 2009.

The part of this story that makes me the maddest is that, each time it makes an appearance, ESPN is reporting that there is no validity to the story. If it’s being denied by all parties, how does it merit being brought up again and again?

My advice to ESPN: Give it up. Get a new story to follow, like the NHL playoffs, Zach Greinke’s start, or just about anything else.
